I headed over to CES today to check out Canon and Sony’s booths, as well as the Canon EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS II USM CES 2015 and some info on the A7s respectively.
I got to check out the new Canon 100-400mm II first. The lens seemed quicker than my old 100-400 on the Mark iii, than it did on the 1D X – there was plenty of low light. I have had my lens for 5 or 6 years now and I am pretty sure time has taken it’s toll on the lens. But I won’t bag on it too much, the old 100-400 did a great job in Rocky Mountain National Park. But the sharper photos from the reviews and PR of the USM II, as well as the hands on makes it a solution for the aging first edition. So it will be up to some other reviews on whether it is the new Canon or Sigma’s 150mm-600mm as soon as they are out in the general public’s hands.
Sony’s booth was jammed packed and I was able to get some info on the Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter, Mark IV and completely silent shooting with the A7s. As soon as Metabones Lens mount is in, I will have some great early morning, late evening and maybe even some nighttime shots of wildlife. The camera is light weight and as you see from the previous blog entry, takes great pics with an inconspicuous profile.
So I am pretty optimistic about this year with the combination of A7s, Metabones Mounts, and either the new Canon or Sigma lens.
