At the beginning of every year in Las Vegas, winter storms come through, and I will get up and head out to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to check out the powder covered Rainbow Mountains (part of the Spring Mountain range) with camera in hand. As “A Giants’ Campfire” captured the Rainbow Mountains with an amazing sunset, “Iced Out Giants” is the polar opposite, a shivering view of an already beautiful mountain range. This shot was six years in the making, as you can read in the Stories Section of this website. The original “Giants’ Campfire” was captured in January of 2017, and it took until March of 2023 to have the perfect amount of snow, the right clouds, and a rich, deep blue sky to get the shot I was looking for.
The title comes from the original “Giants’ Campfire” print, but instead of smoldering embers, you are left with an iced-out smoldering cooler shot. The Giants that were occupying the desert a night before put out their campfire with their ice cold beverages, leaving behind an unforgettable piece of nature’s artistry. The high resolution and detail of this print bring you right into the snow-covered desert sand stone mountains in Red Rock Canyon, capturing a side of the desert that proves its incredible diversity.
