“Milky Mt Charleston” turned from a conditioning trip for a Mt Whitney summit to an amazing and surprising trip in itself to the highest peak just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada – Mount Charleston. Shooting the Milky Way all over the U.S. West in some of the least populated areas and knowing how much light pollution Las Vegas emits, AJ Pagano was shocked to get to see the Milky Way just a few miles from Vegas. We set up camp just a little over 2 miles from Charleston Peak and within Kyle Canyon that happened to shield some of the ambient light, coupled with the elevation to get us above it all, the Milky Way presented itself.
Rather than just take a shot of the stars over the Peak, AJ wanted to get a little more to the shot and one of our tents was in the perfect spot to capture both the foreground tent with a light on inside and the Peak and the Milky Way in the background to make for an amazing composition.
